Resistance to Change in the Corporate Elite
2017
In this empirical study, we investigate the variation in firms’ response to institutional pressure for gender-balanced boards, focusing specifically on the preservation of prevailing practices of director selection and its impact on the representation of women on the board of directors. Using 8 years of data from publicly listed Nordic corporations, we show societal pressure to be one of the determinants of female directorship. Moreover, in some corporations, the director selection process may work to maintain “a traditional type of board”. In such boards, demographic diversity among male members appears to be associated with a lower share of female directors, although we cannot establish w…
The city of Valencia …

2005
This article aims to provide a starting point for reflection about the conditions required for building up an academic elite in mandatory school systems, through international quantitative evaluation. The academic elite are defined, here, not in terms of the educational level they have reached, but through the skills levels attained: the proportion of students who have reached, in each country, the highest level of skill on the main section of the PISA 2000 test. La gerarchia delle apparenze. Moda, strumenti di controllo e potere nelle élite di antico regime
2021

It is this classic question in political science (Dahl, 1961) that this chapter seeks to answer. It proposes to analyze the sociological make up of the French National Assembly elected in June 2017. Of course, this is not the sociology of government in the strict sense of the executive power but that of the parliamentary Assembly elected by direct universal suffrage and supposed to adop…

2017
